Rules and Regulations

I Format of tournament

  1. QUALIFICATIONS - 8 boards matches, IMPs converted into VPs according to the WBF 8 boards VP scale.
    1. rounds 1-3 in groups
    2. rounds 4-7 - Swiss -1 (delayed)
    3. In case two or more teams finish qualification with the same result, WBF tie breaking procedures will apply.
  2. QUARTER-FINALS and SEMIFINALS - 2 x 10 boards
    The team placed 1st at the end of the Qualification Swiss will play against 8th. 2nd against 7th, etc. Bracket is automatic.     
  3. FINAL & 3rd place play-off - 2 x 12 boards.
  4. CARRY-OVER - carry-over in QF and SF matches is 0.1 imp for the team higher placed in Qualification Swiss                
  5. Sitting rights - In the first half AWAY teams “sits” as second. In the second half HOME team.  (so team who “sits” first sends their lineup to the other team)
  6. Consolation Cup - all teams who didn’t qualify to the knock-out stage can play in Consolation Cup(CC) - 5 rounds of 8 boards Swiss (delayed). Carry over in the CC is equal to 1/7 of VP from Qualifications. Teams who will lose the QF drop in to the CC after round 3 with average VP between 4th and 5th team in CC at the moment and will play in round 4 against teams 1-4 after round 3 (assigned randomly).

II System Policy & Convention Cards

  1. HUM and Brown Stickers are not allowed.
  2. All pairs should have Convention Card in english preferable is WBF standard or similar. Captains should send convention cards of their team to kelo@op.pl Convention Cards will be published on the competition website. Any change in CC must be approved by TD.
  3. Players are not allowed to use their own CC or system notes during the match.

III Technical procedures

  1. Starting the match
    1. All players have to be logged in on BBO at least 10 min before starting time. IMPORTANT: when you are on BBO do not enter Casual (it is located on different server and people there will not be visible for others)
    2. Captain of the AWAY team should send lineup at least 10 min before starting time.
      eg. N: nick_of_player1 S: nick_of_player2 WE: nick_p3-nick_p4
    3. Captain of the HOME team (or person pointed by him) is responsible for setting up the match. Instruction how to do it is available on the website (no kibitzers, undo allowed, no barometer).
    4. Person who started the match is automatically TD, so ASAP TDs: kubusiu and 11358 must be added.Instruction how to do it is on the website.
    5. in case of any problems with starting the match please contact kubusiu or 11358
    6. As soon as possible players should connect on zoom as described in security regulations.
  2. Alerting
    Bids must be alerted and explained before being entered.Opponents should know about the alert at the same moment as bid.
    When you need an explanation do not click on the bid, but ask for it on private chat. When asked in private, respond also in private. This is important to avoid any possible UI between partners.
  3. Undos
    1. Undo is available for misclicks correction. We strongly encourage to accept Undos. If you feel damaged due to the undo you can call the director at the table.
    2. UNDOs for correction of errors are not appropriate and should not be requested. If the opponents question the reason for an undo, they should call the director as soon as it becomes evident that this may have been the case.

IV Tournament Director and rulings.

  1. The Tournament Director should be summoned to a table as soon as attention is drawn to an irregularity. After the Director has given the ruling, the only appeal against such ruling can be addressed to the Chief Tournament Director. The decision of the Chief Tournament Director is the final one.
  2. For direct contact with TD on BBO use TDs nicks kubusiu and 11358.

V Fair-play

We trust in your fair play and friendship, important values for PCU and WBF. Any violation against fair play will not be accepted and have severe consequences by WBF. The organizing committee has the right to disqualify any team in the case of reasonable suspicion of foul play. The team will be eliminated from the competition without the right to appeal against the decision.

VI Security regulations

  1. Matches are created on BBO by the home team (unless both teams agree otherwise) with the following settings:
    1. disallow kibitzers and chat with them
    2. allow undo
    3. no barometer scoring
    4. assigning Tournament Directors
  2. Players are responsible for having a camera and a microphone.
  3. Players are required to participate in a video call with their “screen-mate”. Players assigned North and West positions are responsible for creating a conference call and inviting their “screen-mate”. For the whole time their face should be clearly visible and the microphone is continuously working. It’s not permitted to turn off the camera during the play time. The microphone can be muted only on explicit request of the opponent. The camera should be placed directly over or under the screen used by the player.
  4. All players are required to record locally the video call and save the chat to file (hence there will be two copies of each call). Players are required to provide a recording to a tournament director upon request.
  5. The preferred and strongly suggested platform for video conference is Zoom. A tournament director can approve use of other platforms as long as both teams will be able to record the call.
  6. The recordings can be made available for disciplinary proceedings to relevant organizations (national bridge organizations, zonal organizations or the World Bridge Federation).During the play, In addition to the video conference:
    1. Players are to use English language unless both players agree  on a different language. It is not permitted to use any other language than the one agreed upon.
    2. Players are forbidden to use electronic devices other than the one they’re using to play and for the video call. This applies in particular to mobile phones.

VII General information

  1. By participating in this Tournament, the participant automatically assumes the knowledge of all the terms of these Regulations, being in agreement with all the mentioned items and accepting all the decisions of the Organizing Committee
  2. The Organizing Committee reserves the right to modify all or part of the terms and conditions of this Instrument, and must inform the participants about any changes with due notice through email to all participants;
  3. The doubts and omissions in these Regulations will be resolved by the Organizing Committee in a sovereign manner, with no recourse to these decisions;
